H-D Rider's Edge Program, Skilled Rider Course [SRC]
DDS GMSP, MSF Experienced RiderCourse℠ [ERC]

BREAKING NEWS; January 2008, the Georgia Department of Driver Services [DDS] has authorized the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's [MSF] Experienced RiderCourse℠ as a license waiver course for individuals with a class "MP" motorcycle learners permit and their own motorcycle.

Earl Small's H-D & H-D of Cartersville training sites are approved by MSF and meets Department of Drivers Services Georgia Motorcycle Safety Programm requirements.

The Earl Small's H-D & H-D of Catersville Skilled Riders Course includes:

The ERC License Waiver is designed for participants who have a Motorcycle Permit "MP", been riding and own their own motorcycle to enhance the following skills; control at slow speeds, risk management, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgment, straight line stopping quickly and in a curve, swerving and stopping, and multiple curve maneuvers. As well, you'll discuss with your peers how to manage risk, increase visibility, optimize lane position, protective gear, motorcycle inspection and care, rider responsibility and the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding. The License Waiver course concludes with a Skill Evaluation and Knowledge Test.

The ERC Skills Practice course is designed for participants who have a class "M" license, have not been riding for a while, never taken a riding course and /or would like to enhance their skills without the classroom instruction and testing.

Supplied by the Rider Education Department

  • Confirmation letter & information.
  • Educational materials and a motorcycle inspection are sent to all registered participants to start your learning and inspect your bike prior to the class start date.
  • Coffee, tea, soft drinks & water {during the range sessions, water only}.
  • Pen & Highlighter
  • On the range a cooler for your lunch & drinks.

What you are required to bring

  • A street-ready motorcycle.
  • Valid Learners Permit "MP" for the Licensed Waiver Course.
  • Valid motorcycle endorsement - class "M" for the Skills Practice course.
  • Proof of valid registration to your vehicle.
  • Proof of valid motorcycle insurance for your vehicle.
  • A DOT approved helmet.
  • Protective eye wear {sunglasses are recommended}{may be part of the helmet}.
  • A heavy long-sleeve shirt and/or jacket.
  • Leather pants, chaps over the jeans or jeans.
  • Full-fingered gloves.
  • Over-the ankle, sturdy footwear {athletic or tennis shoes are NOT allowed}.

The Schedule

The schedule is one day periodically during the training season.

  • 8:00 am - 6:00 pm / Range & Classroom / Skill Evaluation / Knowledge Test
  • Primarily Scheduled on a Monday, Friday or on a weekend{Saturday or Sunday} not to interfere with a New Rider Course

Attendance at each season is mandatory

The Benefits

After completing the course and passing both the skill evaluation and knowledge test:

  • A completion certificate suitable for framing.
  • GMSP and ESHD memorabilia.
  • May be eligible for a financial reimbursement from specific Motorcycle Groups.
  • A Georgia specific MSF RiderCoursesm License Waiver Completion Card or a MSF RiderCoursesm Skills Practice Completion Card.
      • This card may qualify you for a discount from your insurance provider.

        For DOD & US Military personnel, it may fulfill your base safety requirements.

      • Individuals with a class "MP" motorcycle permit [learners] can present the imprinted completion card at the DDS after class {you have 90 days} to obtain your Georgia motorcycle operator endorsement [class "M"] with no further testing at the licensing agency.
      • Class sizes are kept at 12 students to two instructors to help your learning process.

Instructors

All of our instructors are current MSF RiderCoachesSM and GMSP Instructors.

Tuition

The tuition is required once you are registered in a class. Fill out the Pre-Registration Form and submit it to let us know you are interested in Skilled Rider Course/ Experienced RiderCourseSM. Do not wait - classes fill up fast and there may be a waiting list.

For the ERC License Waiver course the tuition is $150.00.

OR

Those with a Class "M" ask about the discount for the Skills Practice course. If a Club or Special Group {Minimum of eight}ask about group rates and course availability.

In Addition
We have included the Rider’s Edge® / MSF Guide to Group Riding module to the Skilled Rider Course upon request.
